At NKA, we are dedicated to promoting awareness, prevention, and support for both HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) through targeted educational campaigns and screenings. These two health issues remain critical in our community, and we believe that through proactive awareness and early detection, we can make a significant impact on the health and well-being of individuals.

Our 4-month Building and Plastering course equips individuals with practical, hands-on skills in construction, bricklaying, and plaster finishing. Delivered with the support of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), the programme is designed to prepare participants for employment and self-employment opportunities in the construction sector. Learners gain real workplace experience, technical knowledge, and industry-relevant competencies to build a strong foundation for a sustainable career in construction.

At NKA, we recognize the importance of providing home-based care to the elderly and individuals who are sick or recovering from illness. Many individuals in our community face physical and emotional challenges that make it difficult to care for themselves, and we are here to offer the support they need to live with dignity, comfort, and the best possible quality of life.

At NKA, we are deeply committed to supporting individuals who use drugs (PWID) and struggle with alcohol abuse. Our Self-Rehabilitation Program offers an innovative and compassionate approach to helping individuals take control of their lives, reduce substance use, and rebuild their sense of dignity and purpose.

Monday Feeding Scheme: Nourishing Our Community
At NKA, we believe that addressing hunger is a vital step toward building healthy, empowered communities. One of our cornerstone programs, the Monday Feeding Scheme, is dedicated to providing fresh bread and other essential food items to families in need every week.

NKA’s Agriculture Programme is designed to empower community members and youth, including ex-substance users, with practical skills in sustainable farming and food production. The programme focuses on crop cultivation, soil preparation, and basic agribusiness training to support self-reliance and economic participation. Through hands-on learning and community-based projects, participants are equipped to rebuild their lives, improve food security, and create income-generating opportunities within their communities.

Ngaphandle Kokukholwa Akathokozi (NKA), in partnership with the Seriti Institute, City of Johannesburg, and the Breath Better initiative, implements impactful Clean Air and Environmental Awareness Campaigns across communities.
Our work goes beyond awareness on air pollution to include recycling programmes, community clean-ups, dialogue sessions, and educational workshops. These activities are designed to encourage sustainable environmental practices while strengthening community responsibility and participation.
Through school activations, household outreach, community dialogues, and hands-on clean-up campaigns, we empower residents with practical knowledge on waste management, pollution reduction, and environmental protection. Recycling initiatives further support healthier neighbourhoods by reducing waste and promoting responsible resource use.
Together with our partners, NKA continues to build cleaner, healthier, and more informed communities—driving collective action for a sustainable future.

Sports: Empowering Youth and Preventing Challenges
At NKA, we believe that sports are more than just games—they are a powerful tool for building resilience, preventing disadvantage, and addressing the challenges faced by youth in our communities. Our Sports Program is designed to provide young people with the opportunity to engage in positive, structured activities that promote health, teamwork, and personal growth, while simultaneously protecting them from harmful influences such as substance abuse, violence, and other social challenges.
